A weather, flood and farming forecasting station will soon serve the provinces Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley in the first quarter of 2017.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Provincial Officer Oscar Zabate announced on Monday, October 3, 2016, that the two-storey station situated near the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) office within the government center of Davao del Norte is ready for occupancy.

Funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-PAGASA central office, the new monitoring center was put up through the usufruct agreement with the provincial government.

Zabate said the project will boost Davao del Norte’s aim to sustain zero-casualty during calamities.

Ang Davao del Norte is prone sa flooding [mao nga gibutang diri ang station]. Ang magdala sa ila si Engr. Raul Montilla”, Zabate bared when asked who from PAGASA will be designated in the new building.

He bared that Engr. Montilla will be assigned as officer-in-charge of the center.

Meanwhile, Zabate emphasized that the services to be offered by the new weather monitoring site will complement the Agricultural meteorological (Agromet) forecasting existing in PAGASA center at the University of the Southeastern Philippines (USEP) campus, in Apokon, Tagum City.
