DepEd DavNor-Davao del Norte Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Josephine Fadul asked police to strengthen security of schools in Davao del Norte during the Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting held at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan last Monday, 19 September 2016.

Following the recent bombing in Davao City and existing threats of terrorism, Dr. Fadul asked the police to intensify their visibility in the vicinity of schools.

“We have been requesting that high police visibility be done around and inside schools,” the superintendent said.

The official also read the message of DepEd Secretary Leonor M. Briones, urging everyone to be vigilant.

“The Department of Education…. is one with the nation in strongly condemning the bombing incident. We express our deepest sympathy and condolences with the bereaved families of the victims. Such act of violence has no place in the civilized society and we urge the authorities, therefore to leave no stones unturned in pursuing the perpetrators and to ensure that similar barbaric acts are prevented in the future. As classes in Davao City and other places in the country particularly in Davao del Norte resumed on Monday September 05, we request for police visibility near our schools. We are also reminding our personnel to be continuously vigilant on their surroundings.” The message of Sec. Briones read.

Dr. Fadul added that students are being taught to be always vigilant of their surroundings.

She continued that the importance of peace and security have also been infused in the peace curriculum of schools.

She also reminded the students, especially the parents to be vigilant and to avoid spending time in crowded places after school especially at night.

For now, the Department of Education avoids conducting events outside campus, especially at night even if its part of their academic activities.

Dr. Fadul also reminded the students and public to refrain from making bomb jokes especially inside schools because of the panic that it will create.
