63 DABAONONS are bringing out their best in different skills and trades vying in 11 areas of Hanas Dabaonon Skills Competition, one of the highlights of 51st anniversary celebration of Davao del Norte. Tuesday, June 26.

The areas of competition include Bartending with flairtending, Food Service, Flower Arrangement, Table Skirting & Napkin folding, Cookery, Hairdressing (cut & color), Beauty Care (facial make-up, manicure & pedicure), Automotive Servicing (Auto electrical & Brake System), Computer Systems Servicing (Installing OS and Networking), Electrical installation & maintenance (Roughing-in activities, wiring installation of lighting & power outlet) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding.

“The message is clear, of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte: No to drugs, no to crimes, no to corruption and no to poverty. TESDA and Davao del Norte led by our performing governor Anthony G. del Rosario join forces together to fight against poverty. That’s why we are conducting this Hanas Dabaonon Skills Competition. This is in support of the program the BEST PEOPLE. One of his priorities is to produce employed individuals in response to poverty alleviation, linking employment through the skills development. And I would like to inform you that our governor is now in the process of putting up a provincial training center. TESDA would like to instill in the minds and hearts of the people especially the Dabaonons that skills development program is an answer to poverty alleviation,” explains TESDA provincial director Dr. Remegias Timonio on the rationale of the 1-day activity giving a hint that this will become a yearly activity.

Governor Anthony del Rosario agreed that acquiring skills training is a plus factor even one is a degree or masteral holder.

“I would like to tell everybody nga bisan pa makahuman ug college degree ug master’s degree importante gihapon ang skills training because daghan mga employers nga aside from looking the educational level mangita pod sila ug mga specific skills ilabina kung mangita mo didto sa gawas,” Governor del Rosario emphasized referring to those seeking work for abroad.

In last letter “E” which stands for Employment Opportunities under his BEST PEOPLE development agenda, the governor wanted that if possible all Dabaonons will be capacitated through skills and livelihood trainings provided by the provincial government.

“Dire sa atong probinsya, skills training and livelihood is very important sa atong programa sa Kapitolyo; because skills training maka-lead gyod siya ug job opportunities whether here in the Philippines or outside the country. Sa among administrasyon, ang amo gyod gipangandoy ang katawhan unta dili na mo-rely kaayo sa province, city or munisipyo because we want everybody to be self-sufficient, kay kami ganahan pod makakita sa inyo nga kamo maka-trabaho, maka-provide mo sa inyong pamilya,” Gov AGR further explained.

As of this writing, some areas of competition are in progress and proclamation of all winners will be done at the conclusion of the day.
