Davao del Norte– Setting his sights on a higher plane inspired John Leerams Chicano to clinch the title in the 2nd MusaMan TriDavNor triathlon.

The top Asian duathlete crossed the finish line with a time of 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 3 seconds, beating Jumamil of the Tri-SND Barracuda by 1:07 minutes. ActiveHealth’s Mark Hosana settled for the third place clocking at 2:00:54.

“Sobra saya dahil first ako ngayon at masaya ako sa performance ko dahil nag-improve ako sa lahat ng phase ng race,” Chicano said, as he looks forward to defending the title next year.   

The National Team’s big favorite disclosed that his rigid training for the Association of Southeast Asian (ASEAN) Games this coming August is a big factor in winning the 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-km. bike and 10-km. run challenge.

“Training lang talaga kasi preparation namin para sa ASEAN Games,” Chicano said when asked about his inspiration. 

Ma. Claire Adorna also of ActiveHealth’s produced an incredible run to secure the top in the Elite Female Category, finishing in a time of 2:07:40. Kim Kilgroe of De Rosa-Corsa clocked 2:11:04 to finish second, while Alexandra Ganzon of Team Black Arrow Express came in third in 2:27:25 

Vic Montebon led the Rider Omega Pro Tri Team in dominating the Team category, while the team’s Karen Indaya, Jessie Sanchez and Joseph Arnel Emia went on to scoop the Mix Relay.

Team DavNor’s Eryk John Omandam, Albert Garciano and Elias Tabac prevailed in the Male Relay category, while Chyll Bea Amparo, Feliza Joy Abellana and Samantha Ashra Inoc secured the Female Relay.

Governor Anthony del Rosario, who welcomed the winners and finishers at the finish line within the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex, expressed satisfaction that the race went well this year.

He hopes the turn out will double next year on the 3rd MusaMan TriDavNor challenge.

A total of 472 triathletes participated in the competition, which is the first activity that highlighted the weeklong celebration of the 51st Araw ng Davao del Norte.

The festivity is firmly supported by the Tagum Agricultural Development Company, Inc. (TADECO), Ulticon Builders, Inc. and MED 9, as the official anniversary partners.
