The Province of Davao del Norte rose to 7th place as the Most Competitive Province among 81 provinces in the country, a commendation that it received during the recent awarding for the Annual Competitiveness Ranking of Philippine Cities and Municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council through Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) last August 16, 2017 in Manila.

The Province climbed from last year’s 15th spot as it posted a higher percentage of total revenues collected from its local government attributes this success to the increased support and commitment from its local government units.

Local government units, from the provincial down to the municipal level, are assessed based on three pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, and Infrastructure. Cities and Municipalities are then classified according to income with the following categories: Highly Urbanized Cities, Component Cities, all Cities, 1st and 2nd Class Municipalities, 3rd to 6th Class Municipalities, all Municipalities, and all Provinces.

The Competitiveness Index serves as a management tool for planning, legislation, and investment promotion of the local government. It includes information needed by potential investors on assessing viability of a particular locality.

Local Government Units of the Province who worked hard in providing complete and accurate data for CMCI also won in different categories.

The City of Tagum bagged the 3rd place in the Overall CMCI ranking under the Component Cities Category, 2nd place under Infrastructure pillar and 4th place under resiliency pillar. Panabo City ranked 5th in the Most Improved LGU under the Component Cities Category. The Municipality of Braulio E. Dujali and Municipality of Kapalong won the 4th and 15th place in the resiliency pillar respectively.

Included in the top 10 Most Competitive Provinces are as follows in rank: (1) Province of Rizal, (2) South Cotabato, (3) Cavite, (4) North Cotabato, (5) Laguna, (6) Sarangani, (7) Davao del Norte, (8) Batangas, (9) Bukidnon and (10) Camiguin
